Rebels drop region contest at B-L

BATESBURG - The Strom Thurmond varsity baseball team fell to 2-6 overall and 0-2 in Region 3-AA play Friday following a 7-1 road loss at Batesburg-Leesville High School.

The Panthers' Scott Price improved to 2-0 on the mound with the victory, while D.J. Osby and Dametrius Robinson each had two hits.

The Rebels have now dropped five straight games.

Last week, Thurmond jumped out to a 4-0 lead over third-ranked Mid-Carolina on the strength of a three-run home run by Corey Weeks, but the Rebels could not hold onto the lead, and Mid-carolina stormed back for a 14-4 win.

Thurmond dropped its next game on Thursday in an 11-4 loss to Greenwood.

Also, in softball action Friday, the Lady Rebels of Strom Thurmond fell in a 13-0 final at home to the Lady Panthers of Batesburg-Leesville Victoria Gunter improved to 3-1 for B-L, as the Lady Panthers were led by Ashleigh Padgett, Blair Kirkland and Shelley Wise, who all had two hits.
