TRENTON – Softball players from all across the CSRA gathered at the Trenton Softball Field to raise money to support local teenager Candice Cordale’s as she continues to recover from a serious car crash some two months ago.

Paul Grandy, who helped organize the tournament, said the tournament was a big success

“I think we raised between $1,600 or 1,700 and everything went great,” he said. “We want to thank all the sponsors and everyone who helped out.”

Grandy said Candice continues to fight back from the injuries she sustained in the crash.

“She’s going to physical therapy and just working hard with that,” he said.

In the tournament, played under “one pitch” rules to speed the action along, the Backyard Boys (a team comprised of players from the Batesburg-Saluda-Gilbert) area, claimed the championship while displaying a penchant for the long ball.

“They (the Backyard Boys) were hitting some balls (out) that’s for sure,” added Grandy. “They had a pretty good team. Overall, it was a great turnout and everyone seemed to have a great time so we were real pleased.”

The Saluda Pickers finished in second place.
