Fox Creek Has A New Beat

First Byline:
COLLEEN KENNEDY/FCHS Correspondent

NORTH AUGUSTA - Mr. Chris Martinez, from Elgin, South Carolina, recently joined the Fox Creek family with only a month left in school.

When asked why he chose to come with merely a month left of school he stated, “It gives me the opportunity to meet the faculty I will be working with next year as well as the students. Students are the most important part of the program.”

Mr. Martinez attended Spring Valley High in Columbia and went on to receive his Bachelor’s degree in music with an emphasis in music education at the University of South Carolina in Columbia. Besides his passion for teaching music, Mr. Martinez’s other interests include football, basketball, rock climbing, sailing, performing, teaching, and playing the trumpet.

“I decided to teach in a small school like Fox Creek because here I am given the ability to build my own music program with the goal of making it bigger and full of quality musicians. My plans for the music program at Fox Creek are to establish a program that the community and I can be proud of and to help students learn characteristics that will help students to be well-driven and motivated.”

“I’m really excited to be here at Fox Creek. Everyone including the community has been friendly. Everyone wants the music program to succeed and I’m up for the task!”

Parents and students will have a chance to meet Mr. Martinez at the Fall Expo on Saturday, August 14, 2010 between 10 AM and 2 PM in the Commons. (Mark your calendars!)

Any questions prior to that time can be directed to the school. Mr. Martinez welcomes questions, visits, and conferences for prospective band/chorus students at Fox Creek.
