Mr. Vernon “"Ray"” Sanders, 85, of Ridge Spring, died Sunday, March 15, 2009.

Graveside services were held Tuesday, March 17, at 4 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. J.B. Redd officiating.

Mr. Sanders was born in Ridge Spring, the son of the late J.W. and Lula Satcher Sanders. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church and served in the Navy and in World War II. He retired from Baltimore, Md., then moved back to Ridge Spring.

Surviving are his nieces and nephews, Vernon Carter (Ann), Aiken, Norman Carter (Jan), Leesville, Shelvedene Gayle, Clearwater, Frances Jones (Charles), Aiken, and Claudia Moore (Ronnie), Aiken.

He was predeceased by a sister, Jessie Mae Sanders Carter.

Milton Shealy Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
