A memorial service for Mrs.
Marina Waters Kirkland, 71, of Johnston, was held Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2009 at 11
a.m. at Johnston United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Kirkland, a native of
Johnston, died Saturday, Jan. 31. She was a daughter of the late Philemon B.
and Edith Wright Waters. She retired after 47 years from H.G. Reynolds
Construction Co. as office manager and accountant. She was a member of Johnston
United Methodist Church including membership in the UMW, the Margaret Cox
Circle and The Wesley Sunday School Class. She was also a member of the Ridge
Heritage Association and a former member of the Johnston Woman’s Club.

Survivors include her husband,
Roy E. Kirkland Sr.; a daughter, Valerie K. Holmes (Joe); and a son, Roy E.
Kirkland Jr. (Rhette), both of Johnston; a sister, Betty Phil (Tina) Odham,
Sebring, Fla.; a grandson, Marshall K. Crocker, Columbia; and a number of
nieces and nephews.
