Juliet P. Lofton
Juliet Pemble Lofton, age 86, died Wednesday, September 2, 2009 at UNI Health of Aiken.
Born in McClellanville, SC , she was a daughter of the late James A. and Caroline Stroman. Ms. Lofton earned a bachelor’s degree from Winthrop College and attended Yale University and the Medical University of South Carolina.
She completed anesthesiology school in the US Army, then served as an army nurse anesthetist in the European Theater in World War II, in Korea, and in Viet Nam. She retired in 1973 with the rank of lieutenant colonel.
Ms. Lofton is survived by twelve nieces and nephews and many cousins in McClellanville, Mount Pleasant and Charleston. She leaves behind a dear friend, Lonnie De Maria, of Red Bank, New Jersey.
She was predeceased by four brothers and two sisters: Elizabeth Hay, of Wadmalaw Island, James Lofton, Jr, of Charleston, Paul S. Lofton, Ninety Six, Susan Watson, Johnston, Harry Lofton, Honolulu, and Samuel A Lofton of Augusta, Ga.
Graveside services will be held in McClellanville United Methodist Church Cemetery, McClellanville, on Saturday, September 5 at 2 o’clock.
Bland Funeral Home of Johnston and Mayer Funeral Home of Georgetown are in charge of arrangements.
