Janie R. Goodwin Harrison

Mrs. Janie R. Goodwin Harrison, 92, of North Augusta, educator and retired supervisor of Family Services, died Wednesday, May 27, 2009.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 1, at 2 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Lewis Burt and Dr. Albert M. James officiating. Burial was in Sunset Gardens Memorial Park.
Mrs. Harrison was a native of Edgefield County and was a graduate of Bettis Academy and Voorhees Junior College. She received her B.A. degree in liberal arts in 1960 and her Master’s degree in social services in 1962 at Syracuse University in New York. She was engaged in several church auxiliaries at Mt. Canaan and Second Providence Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Dr. Ira E. (Claire) Harrison, Atlanta, Ga.; a brother, Augustus Oliphant, Nashville, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Timothy Harrison, Marcus Harrison, Ira Michael Harrison and Meri-Louise Harrison; four great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of cousins.
