Elise Herlong Horne

Mrs. Elise Herlong Horne, 99, died Monday, May 4, 2009. She was the widow of Ronald Horne and Homer P. Herlong.
Funeral services were held Thursday, May 7, at 11 a.m. at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. Burial was in Ridge Spring Cemetery.
Mrs. Horne was born Sept. 8, 1909 and was the daughter of the late John W. (King) and Emma Willis Franklin. A native of Edgefield County, she was a 1931 graduate of Columbia College and was a former teacher in the public schools of South Carolina for 35 years. She spent the majority of her teaching career at North Aiken Elementary and had a passion for teaching and learning. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Ridge Garden Club and Ridge Study Club. She was also a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church where she was involved in various activities.
Survivors include a son, Dr. H. Franklin Herlong, Baltimore, Md; a daughter, Sylvia Herlong Kelly-Stone and husband Donald Stone, Ridge Spring; three grandchildren and their spouses, Shannon Kelly Dubose (Brian), Ridge Spring-Monetta, John B. Kelly (Jenny), Johnston, Leigh Kelly Sloan (Jay), Edgefield; and six great-grandchildren, Chandler Corley, Hunter and Carter Dubose, Trey and Drew Sloan and Grace Kelly.
She was predeceased by a brother J. Broadus Franklin, Johnston.
