Dr. J. Sam Garrison

Johnston, SC Funeral Services for Dr. James Samuel Garrison, age 90, will be held Thursday, June 18, 2009, at Johnston First Baptist Church at 11 am with burial to follow in Sunset Gardens Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Bland Funeral Home Wednesday evening from 6-8 pm.
Dr. Garrison, a native of Anderson and Seneca died Monday, June 15, 2009. He was a son of the late Louis C. and Cordelia Hutchinson Garrison. Dr. Garrison was a 1940 graduate of Clemson College and graduated in 1943 from the Medical College of South Carolina in Charleston. After completing military service in the US Army in 1946, he moved to Johnston and was engaged in Family Practice until his retirement in 1988. During the years, Dr. Garrison was involved in many civic and community activities and was the Team Physician for Johnston High School Football and later for Strom Thurmond High School Football. He was a member of Johnston First Baptist Church where he sang in the choir for many years.
Survivors include his three daughters and sons-in-law: Janet and Bill Reese, Martha and Sonny Morris, and Margaret and John Mullen; sister: Eunice DelLoache; grandsons: Jim Morris, George Morris, Dr. William Reese, Sam Mullen, Garrison Reese, Tom Mullen; granddaughter: Mary Reese Henson; (they will serve as pallbearers), 10 great grandchildren; and a very special care giver, Marian Hamilton. Dr. Garrison was preceded in death by his wife Lois Miley Garrison and son Reid Garrison.
