Mrs. Angell W. Corthan, of Aiken, died Sunday, Jan. 11, 2009 at her residence.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 17, at 2 p.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Edgefield, with the Rev. Edward Lloyd officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Corthan was born in Edgefield County on Sept. 7, 1918, to the late Allen and Minnie (Simpkins) Weaver. She attended Martha Schofield High School of Aiken and later Bettis Academy of Edgefield. She served as a member of of the "Willing Workers" auxiliary in her youth.
Bethlehem Baptist Church recognized her years of devoted service by a certificate of "Dedicated Christian Service." She also attended Union Baptist Church for many years, where she served as a member of the "Voices of Faith" and a member of the Young Folks Union Society of Aiken.
She was married to the late Leroy Corthan Sr.
Survivors include two sons, Leroy Corthan Jr., Decatur, Ga., and Rhett A. Corthan, Riverdale, Ga.; a daughter, Diana C. Bolden, Baton Rouge, La.; three brothers, Lloyd Weaver and the Rev. William C. Weaver, both of Edgefield, the Rev. Allen Weaver, New York; two sisters, Elease W. McPhadder and Louise Weaver, both of Florida; in-laws; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her firstborn, Walter Lee Corthan, as an infant.

Miller's Funeral Home, Aiken, was in charge of arrangements.
