Viola Brown

Funeral services for Viola Brown, of North Augusta, were held Sunday, Aug. 1, at 2 p.m. at Willow Spring Baptist Church, Edgefield, with the Rev. Gordon pastor, officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include daughters, Mary Frances Brown and Yvonne (Horace) West, both of Detroit, Mich., and Mary (Robert) Gartrell, Johnston; a granddaughter raised as a daughter, Gail Brown, North Augusta; and a god-niece, Susie (Johnny) Herrin, Aiken; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Amos & Sons Funeral Home, Johnston, was in charge of arrangements.
 
Richard A. “Tony” Furr Jr.

Mr. Richard A. “Tony” Furr Jr., 42, of Edgefield, died Sunday, Aug. 1, 2010 at University Hospital in Augusta, Ga.
Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
Mr. Furr was a native of Richmond County and was a resident of Edgefield. He loved being with his daughter Heather and being outdoors. He was a carpenter, an avid fisherman and a fan of NASCAR racing.
Survivors include his daughter, Heather Furr, Lincolnton; his mother, Sharon Furr, Grovetown; his father, Richard (Martha) Furr Sr., Augusta; a brother, Robert (Carole) Furr Sr., Grovetown; and life companion, Patricia Enevoldsen, Edgefield. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

Ollie F. Leaverett

Funeral services for Mr. Ollie F. Leaverett, of Graniteville, were held Saturday, July 31, 2010 at Mt. Canaan Baptist Church, with the Rev. G.L. Brightharp officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mr. Leaverette, a native of Edgefield County, died Wednesday, July 28. He was a member of Mt. Canaan Baptist Church and a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Brown Leaverette; two daughters, Sonja Leaverette, Graniteville, and Vickie Leaverette, Bloomfield, N.J.; four sons, Steve Leaverette Sr., Graniteville, Ollie (Tracey) Leaverette Jr., Cranford, N.J., Damian Leaverette, Graniteville, and Roderic Leaverette, Baltimore, Md; a brother, Willie (Ruth) Leaverette, Aiken; an aunt, Lucille Jefferson, Aiken; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives.

Harold Lawrence McClendon

Mr. Harold Lawrence McClendon, 82, of Augusta, Ga., husband of Elizabeth Ouzts McClendon, died Saturday, July 31, 2010 at Trinity Mission Health and Rehab.
Private funeral services will be held at a later date.
Mr. McClendon was a native of Edgefield and was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was the son of the late Frank Oscar McClendon and Varie Still McClendon and he was a Mason and a Shriner. He was retired from E.I. Dupont.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Daniel L. McClendon, Doraville, Ga.; a granddaughter, Ashley G. Mayers, Gaston; a brother, LCDR Frank McClendon;  and a sister, Lois Worth, both of Fla.

John Mitchell Ouzts

Mr. John Mitchell Ouzts, 85, of Edgefield, husband of the late Ethel Driggers Ouzts, died Wednesday, July 28, 2010 in Warrenville.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 30, at 11 a.m. at Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home, with burial in Eastview Cemetery in Edgefield.
Mr. Ouzts was born in Edgefield and was a member of Edgefield Church of God. He was a retired textile worker and was a World War II Army veteran.
Survivors include a son, Bobbie (Elaine) Driggers, Warrenville; two grandchildren, Robbie Driggers, Warrenville, Paul (Lori) Driggers, Edgefield; two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Taylor Driggers.

Kimberly Lasha Raiford
Kimberly Lasha Raiford, 26, of Johnston, died Saturday, July 24, 2010 at her residence. Funeral services were held Thursday, July 29, at 4 p.m. at Walk of Faith Tabernacle in Johnston.
The Apostle Roger Edwards is pastor. The Rev. Delmar Calloway of Bacon Chapel FBH was eulogist. Burial was in the Bacon Chapel FBH Cemetery. Survivors include her children, Kobe L. Windless, Kimaree S. Raiford, and Kiley M. Raiford, all of the home; parents, the Rev. Larry and Johnnie Mae Corley Raiford, Johnston; brothers, Stanley (Eva) Raiford, Johnston, and Chauncey Raiford, Columbia; and many other relatives.

George Andrew Waldo

Mr. George Andrew Waldo, 88, of Crest Road in Edgefield, died Thursday, July 29, 2010 at Edgefield County Hospital. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 5, at 2 p.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church, with the Rev. Johnny Clark officiating.
Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Waldo, a native of Americus, Ga., was a member and deacon of Macedonia Baptist Church. He was the owner and operator of Waldo’s Shoe Repair Service and a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Hattie Ruth Rearden Waldo; two sons, Steiner (Carolyn) Waldo, Edgefield, and George (Tyrone) Waldo Jr., Columbia; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law; and one brother-in-law, Julia Rearden, Mt. Vernon, N.Y., Dorothy Rearden, Jeanette Rearden and Clarence Rearden, Philadelphia, Pa; and a host of other relatives. Friends may call at the residence.
