Cliff Randall Gibson

Mr. Cliff Randall Gibson, of Ward, son of Buck and Norma Gibson, died Friday, April 2, 2010 after fighting a long and courageous battle with cancer.  
Graveside services were held Monday, April 5, at 3 pm. at the Gibson Family Cemetery on Church Street in Ward.
Mr. Gibson was born on May 28, 1981. He loved life to the fullest and enjoyed the beauties of the land.
Survivors include his parents; brothers, Dennis Gibson of Batesburg, and Bryce (Natalie) Gibson of North Augusta.

Charlie ‘Jack’ Jackson

Mr. Charlie “Jack”  Jackson, of Upper Marlboro, Md., died Sunday, March 28, 2010.
A celebration of his life was held Saturday, April 3, at 11 a.m. at Peoples Community Church in Washington, D.C. Burial will be on Friday, April 9, at Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery in Cheltenham, Md.
Mr. Jackson was born in Edgefield on July 25, 1933 he moved to Washington, D.C. around 1957. His military record includes serving and retiring from the U.S. Army and the National Guard of Washington, D.C. He also retired from the National Institutes of Health with over 30 years of service. Bored with retirement, he worked part-time at Crescent Ridge Adult Day Health Care. Most recently, he was employed with the Prince George’s County Public School System. He loved fishing, the 49ers and backyard barbecues with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Delores Jackson; three sons, Ronnie Willie and Charles; four daughters, Debra, Rana, Germaine and Theresa; two sisters, Betty Simpkins and Gloria Bynum, both of Edgefield; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and in-laws.
Memorials may be made to an organization specializing in cancer research and treatment.
 
 
Roger Dale McGee

Mr. Roger Dale McGee, 69, of Warrenville, husband of Martha Kathryn Smith McGee, died Monday March 29, 2010.
Funeral services were held Saturday April 3, at 3 p.m. at Harmony United Methodist Church in Johnston, with burial in the church cemetery with Masonic Rites.
Mr. McGee was born on March 15, 1941 in Saluda.  He was a resident of Vaucluse and later Warrenville. He retired after 40 years from Graniteville Company/Avondale Mills. He was a member of the Masons, the Shriner’s, Scottish Rites and Eastern Star. He was an avid bowler with several leagues in Aiken, Augusta and North Augusta. He enjoyed waterskiing and participated in shows with the Augusta Sportsman Ski Club. He enjoyed camping and traveling with his family and was able to visit 48 of the 50 States.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his mother, Frances McGee; his son, Roger Keith (Leslie) McGee, Warrenville;  two daughters, Kathryn Michelle (Tracy) Wright, Savannah, and Kimberly Renee (Hamer Morris) McGee, Georgetown;  grandchildren, Hannah and Sarah McGee, Caleb and Isabella Wright, Aaron Owenby, Kaylan and Hamer Morris; brother, Ronnie (Edna) McGee, St. Mary’s, Ga.; sisters, Sandra (Robert) Taylor, Leesville, Sally (Tom) Frazier, Aiken, Vonnie (Dana) Jackson, Edgefield; sister-in-law, Betty (Dupre) Fulbright, Johnston; brothers-in-law, Sammie (Harriette) Smith, New Holland, Walter (Doris) Smith, Laurel Hill, Clyde (Anne) Smith, Johnston.
He was predeceased by his son, Kevin Dale McGee; grandson, Graham Tracy Wright; his father, Marvin McGee; and in laws, Sam and Ruth Smith.

Shirley B. Moore

Mrs. Shirley B. Moore, 67, of Belvedere, daughter of the late Clyde and Cleo Rhoden Baggett, died Wednesday, March 31, 2010.
At her request, she was cremated and a Celebration of Life Service held Saturday, April 3, at 11 a.m. at Belvedere First Baptist Church in Belvedere, with Pastor John Meyer and Dr. Roy Head officiating. Her remains will be interred at a later date in Mount of Olives Cemetery in Johnston.
Born in Springfield and a resident of Aiken County for most of her life, Mrs. Moore retired from Collier-Jennings/Security Federal Insurance after 20 years of service. She was an active member of Belvedere First Baptist Church where she was a member of the
Azell Mundy Sunday School Class. When her children were younger, she was known as “The Kool-Aid Mom” to the neighborhood children. Prior to her health declining, she enjoyed going to the Huddle House, Wife Saver, the mountains and the Biltmore Estate.
Family members include her children, Dean Moore (Diane), North Augusta, Monica M. Mazullo, North Augusta, and Todd Moore (Angela), Aiken; her beloved grandchildren, Dustin Moore and Christine Marzullo and her siblings, Mickey Aull, Salisbury, N.C., the late Dottie Porter, Williston, and Carolyn Johnson, Wisconsin.

Dorothy Owens

Funeral services for Mrs. Dorothy Owens, 88, of Trenton, were held Friday, April 2, 2010 at 3 p.m. at Johnston Pentecostal Holiness Church, with burial in Sunset Gardens Memorial Park.
Mrs. Owens, a native of Edgefield County, died Wednesday, March 31. She was a daughter of the late Tolbert and Fannie Covington Murrell. Mrs. Owens retired from Riegel, Inc. and was a member of Johnston Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Survivors include sons, Ronnie (Jeanette), Ted (Jeanette) and Philip Owens; a sister, Linda Walker; brothers, Charles (Lucy), Monty (Cathy), Jerry ( Lanie), Johnny (Diane), and Wayne Murrell; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, T.B. Owens, and son, Michael Owens.

Frances Watkins Stanford

Funeral services for Mrs. Frances Watkins Stanford, 44, of Edgefield, who died Monday, March 29, 2010, were conducted Saturday, April 3, at 11 a.m., at Posey Funeral Chapel. Elder Lynn T. Jones officiated. Burial was private.
Mrs. Stanford was a native of Augusta, Ga., having made Edgefield her home for the past seven years. She was a 1983 graduate of Butler High School and daughter of the late Mary Wilson Hess and Hershal Jack Melton.
Survivors include her husband of 13 years, Terry C. Stanford; a daughter, Rebecca Nan Stanford, Edgefield; her sister and husband, Lisa and John McNerlin, Grovetown; two grandchildren, Austin Stanford and Timmy Stanford.

Funeral services for Mr. Charlie Strom Sr., of Edgefield, were held Saturday, April 3, at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Oscar Brown, pastor, and the Rev. Dr. Jasper Lloyd Sr., eulogist. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mr. Julian Still Waldo Sr., 57, of Lenier Street in Johnston, died Saturday, March 27, 2010 at his residence.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 31, at 1 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ernest Gordon officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Ollie M. Waldo; a son, Julian (Nora) Waldo Jr., Edgefield; a daughter, Junetta Butler, Myrtle Beach; a sister, Roper Ann (Tommy) Burton, Johnston; a brother, Charles Spencer, Johnston; five grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Maggie Mae Yarborough

Graveside services for Mrs. Maggie Mae Yarborough, 74, of W.A. Reel Drive in Edgefield, who died Monday, March 29, 2010, were conducted Thursday, April 1, at 3 p.m. at Pineview Memorial Park, with the Rev. Lance Thomas officiating.
Mrs. Yarborough was a native of Columbia and a former North Augusta resident  for 47 years, having made Edgefield her home for the past six years. She was a Baptist and a retired administrator with S&S Cafeteria, with over 25 years of service. She was the wife of the late Mr. Edward Yarborough.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Robin Yarborough, Ocean Springs, Miss., and Steve and Sherrie Yarbrough, Richmond, Va.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Ken Smith and Lisa Satcher, all of Edgefield; Becky and Ed Boozer, North Augusta; four brothers, Wayne Dawkins, Tommy Dawkins, Ray Dawkins, all of Columbia, and Richard Dawkins, North Augusta; a sister, Elberta Oswald, Jackson; 15 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
