Barbara J. McManus

Mrs. Barbara Jean “Bobbie” McManus, 77, of Edgefield, died Friday March 5, 2010 at Edgefield County Hospital.
Graveside Services were held Sunday March 7, 2010 at 2 P.M. at Sunset Gardens Memorial Park in Edgefield.
Mrs. McManus was born in Greenwood, S.C. and was of the Baptist Faith. She was a Foster Parent for W.E. Parker School and she was a Homemaker.
Survivors include her husband- Milledge Turner, 1 daughter- Diann (Mike) McCary, 11 Grandchildren and 2 Great-Grandchildren.

Guy V. Crouch, Jr.

Mr. Guy V. Crouch, Jr. 86, died Saturday March 6, 2010 in Florence, S.C. He was born in Edgefield, S.C., the son of the late Guy V. Crouch, Sr. and Flossie Lamb Crouch. He graduated from Edgefield High School in 1941 and served in the Army during WW II. He worked in the textile industry most of his life. He was plant manager of Turbeville Manufacturing Company for almost twenty-five years. Mr. Crouch will be remembered by many for his generosity and sense of humor. His friends at The Carolinian Retirement Community in Florence will miss his comforting smile and encouragement.
Mr. Crouch is survived by two children, Jane (Rick) Dias of Pawleys Island and Betsy (Bobby) Luquire, of North Augusta. Three Grandchildren, Megan Luquire, Grovetown, Ga., Katie L. (Kyle) Rushton, North Augusta and Ginny (Andy) Dias- Strickland, Pawleys Island. Three Great-Grandchildren, Peyton and Parker Rushton, North Augusta and Tyson Dias, Pawleys Island. Special Friend and nephew Randy Thames, Florence. Mr. Crouch was predeceased by his sister, Meda Crouch Crumley , his first wife, Margaret Sharp Crouch and his second wife Ann Coker Crouch.
Graveside services were held Monday March 8, 2010 at 2 P.M. at Eastview Cemetery in Edgefield, S.C. The family will receive friends after the service at the graveside.

Ned Joseph Sherlock
Mr. Ned Joseph Sherlock, of Heatherwood Drive in North Augusta, died Thursday, Feb. 25, 2010 at University Hospital in Augusta, Ga. The Mass of Christian Burial and Prayer Vigil were celebrated Monday, March 1 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Edward Catholic Church, with Father Cherian Thalakulam, celebrant. Burial was in Pineview Memorial Park.

Edith Johnson Suthers
Mrs. Edith Johnson Suthers, 80, formerly of North Augusta, died Monday, Feb. 22, 2010in Savannah, Ga. after a brief stay in the hospital.Funeral services were held Thursday, Feb. 25, at 2 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church in North Augusta, conducted by the Rev. Dr. James C. Adams.
Mrs. Suthers was the widow of Allen Whitaker Suthers. A native of Edgefield, she lived in North Augusta for more than 50 years. She resided in Savannah for the past three years. She attended the Medical University of South Carolina School of Nursing and graduated from the University Hospital Nursing School in Augusta, Ga. She was a long-time member of Grace United Methodist Church and attended Isle of Hope United Methodist Church after moving to Savannah.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, John Earle Suthers and Linder Sipple Suthers and grandchildren, Holly Emmaline Suthers and Daniel Allen Suthers of Savannah; son and daughter-in-law, Michael Allen Suthers and Suzanne Atkinson Suthers and grandchildren, Joseph Michael Suthers and Lindsey Suzanne Suthers of Murrels Inlet; sister, Sara J. Cartledge, McCormick; sister-in-law, Mrs. John T. Suthers Jr. of Roanoke, Va.; and six nieces and one nephew.

Johnnie “Shine” Thomas Jr.
Mr. Johnnie “Shine” Thomas Jr., 93, of W.A. Reel Drive in Edgefield, died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2010 at Edgefield County Hospital.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Feb. 28, at 11 a.m. at Jeter Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Jasper Lloyd officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mr. Thomas, a native of Edgefield County, was a member of Science Hill Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include four sons, Willie B. (Georgia) Thomas, Eddie Albert Thomas, and Willie (Sadie) Thomas, Edgefield, Johnnie (Eva) Thomas III, Trenton; two sisters, Fannie Tillman and Chaney Glanton, Edgefield; 18 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Essie Cheatham and Susie Glover; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Marion Erskine Thomas
The Rev. Marion Erskine Thomas, 83, of Liberty, died Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010, at his residence. Born in Lowell, North Carolina, he was a son of the late Lloyd and Nathalie Lawson Thomas.
Memorial services to celebrate the life of Rev. Thomas were conducted Wednesday, March 3, at 3 p.m. at Norris First Baptist Church, by the Revs. Royce Addis and Bill Rigsby. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church fellowship hall. Inurnment will take place next month at Arlington National Cemetery will full military honors.
The Rev. Thomas earned a Masters of Theology degree from Southern Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. During World War II he served his country as a Merchant Marine and later in the Korean War as a first lieutenant in the United States Air Force. He was highly decorated, receiving the Distinguished Flying Cross and was a F-86 fighter pilot for the North Carolina Air National Guard. He was a commercial pilot for Trans World Airlines for many years and was also employed as a private corporate pilot. He was an avid golfer, fisherman and pontificator. He was most recently a member of Norris First Baptist Church. Prior to his move to Liberty, the Rev. Thomas was pastor of Little Stephens Creek Baptist Church in Edgefield and later worked for the Saluda Baptist Association.
Surviving are his wife, Judith Morton Thomas; two daughters, Debra Paysinger and her husband Ben Paysinger M.D. of Columbia, Susan Braun and her husband Eric Braun of Alexandria, Va; a son, Stephen Thomas and his wife Lisa of Orlando, Fla.; a sister, Zanita Thomas of Lake Mary, Fla.; a brother, Jack L. Thomas of Spartanburg; and even grandchildren, Kristen Paysinger M.D., Daniel Paysinger, Meredith Paysinger, Nicholas Braun, Olivia Braun, Lauren Thomas and Samuel Thomas.
He was predeceased by a sister and seven brothers.

Johnny Washington
Funeral services for Mr. Johnny Washington, of Aiken, were held Saturday, Feb. 27, at 2 p.m. at Old Rosemary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Henry Curry, pastor, officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mr. Washington was a farmer.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Harris Washington; two daughters, Viola Mountrie (Eugene), Aiken, and Johnnie Mae Mealing (Joseph), Aiken; two brothers, Willie Williams, Trenton, and Lloyd Washington, Aiken; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

William H. “Bill” King, Sr.
Mr. William H. “Bill” King, Sr., husband of Katherine Flowers King, of Stonehenge Circle, died February 25, 2010 at his residence. A memorial service was held Friday March 5, 2010 at Antioch Baptist Church in Edgefield. Mr. King was born in Marble Hill, MO., and was a self-employed printer. He attended Antioch Baptist Church and was a World War II Army Veteran. Survivors include his wife, one son- William H. King, Jr., Los Angeles, California, one step-daughter- Sherry Torres, Pomona, California, 6 Grandchildren and 5 Great-Grandchildren. Mrs. Willie Mae Mason
Mrs. Willie Mae Scott Mason, 67, of Handy Lane, entered into rest Tuesday, March 2, 2010. Funeral services were held Sunday March 7, 2010 at Poplar Spring Baptist Church, with Minister Darrell Blocker officiating and the Rev. Donnell Meriweather Pastor. Interment was at Sunset Gardens Memorial Park, Johnston. Mrs. Mason, a native of Edgefield County was a member of Poplar Spring Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, George L. Mason, a son, George (Gwenston) mason; three daughters, Cynthia (Darrell) Blocker, Vickey (Anthony) Burgess, and Adrean (Willie) Waters, a sister, Julia B. Mason; a brother, Elester (Addie) Scott; nine grandchildren; one great grandchild; a host of other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Lillie Mae Simpkins Williams
Mrs. Lillie Mae Simpkins Williams, 87, entered into rest March 3, 2010 at Edgefield County Hospital. Funeral arrangements will be announced later. Mrs. Williams, a native of Edgefield County, was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church. Survivors include a sister, Mary Lucy Patten, Edgefield, S.C.; a brother, Alvin Simpkins, Washington, D.C.; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Maria Lippert Benner
Mrs. Maria Lippert Benner, 80, of Plum Branch Rd., wife of Karl Benner, died Tuesday March 2, 2010 at her residence. Mrs. Benner was born in Elbogen in the Subetenland of Germany and was a Homemaker. She was the daughter of the late Lambert and Anna Lippert. Survivors include her husband, sons- Willi Benner, Pete Benner, and Paul (Lisa) Benner, daughter- Maria Maestri, sister- Berta Farney-Ansonia, and one brother- Oskar Lippert. Grandchildren- Sean Benner, Lucas Benner, Matthew Maestri, Amanda Benner, Kate Gardner, Samantha Benner, Wesley Fulhum, and Carrie Anne Fulghum; Great-Grandchildren- Isabella Benner and Nathanael Benner. Mrs. Benner was predeceased by a daughter Anne Gardner and Sisters- Francisca Thum, Liesie Altznauer, Frieda Nemlowicz. Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice. There will be a memorial service held by the family at a later date.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Ruth E. Butler-Williams was held on Saturday March 6, 2010 at Republican Grove Baptist Church. Rev. Willie Patten is Pastor. Burial was held in the church cemetery. She was a retired Textile worker. Survivors include; her husband, Ernest Williams, Edgefield, SC; three sons, Demetrese L. (Michelle) Butler, Germany; Rico L. (Portia Bush) Butler, and Lamar B. David Mundy
David Mundy, 80, of Ward, died Sunday, February 28, 2010, in Saluda Nursing Center. Born in Aiken County, a son of the late Govan and Hattie Cox Mundy, he was the husband of the late Dorothy Bartley Mundy. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Mundy had retired from Mt. Vernon Mills and was a member of Richland Springs Baptist Church. Surviving are a brother, Daniel Mundy and family of Langley, a sister, Lillian Hodgen and family of Greensboro, NC, Cousins, Richard Hall and family and Carrie Driggers and family, both of Ridge Spring, and four nieces, Kathy Padgett of West Columbia, Glenda Taylor of Gilbert, Brenda Frye of Summit, and Freda Platt of North. Funeral services was held Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at Richland Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Steve Jones officiating.
