Mae Lanier Bledsoe

Mrs. Mae Lanier Bledsoe, formerly of Bledsoe Road in Johnston, died Sunday, Feb. 21, 2010 at Saluda Nursing Center.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 23, at 3 p.m. at Bethlehem United Methodist Church, with the Revs. William Hightower and Tina Thomas officiating. Burial was in Bethlehem United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Born in Edgefield County on May 16, 1923 and a daughter of the late John Sheppard “Shep” and Bertha Collins Lanier, she was the wife of the late Ervin Odell Bledsoe. She was a graduate of Johnston High School and was a homemaker. She was a lifelong member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church where she served in many positions as a pillar of the church. She was an avid community volunteer, serving in many capacities.
Surviving are her two daughters and a son-in-law, Jane B. Locke of Mt. Pleasant and Doris B. and Elwyn Holmes of Saluda; five grandchildren, Tonya Belcher Cerce (David), Asheville, N.C., Tasha Belcher Yates (Brian), Hico, West Va., Kirk Lanier Holmes, Clemson, William Elwyn Holmes and Amelia Helen Holmes, both of Saluda; a great-grandson, Dale Cerce, Asheville, N.C.; two nephews, Lester N. Padgett, San Antonio, Texas, and Harold S. Butler, Ninety Six; and two nieces, Patricia Lanier Holmes, Johnston, and Becky Butler Timms, Ninety Six.
She was preceded in death by a brother, James Robert Lanier of Johnston; a sister, Ethel Lanier Butler, Ninety Six; and a son-in-law, Lynwood “Bud” D. Locke Jr., Mt. Pleasant.
Ramey Funeral Home, Saluda, was in charge of arrangements.
 
Ellie Mae Bussey

Mrs. Ellie Mae Bussey, of North Augusta, wife of the late Rev. Jordan Bussey, died Thursday, Feb. 18, 2010 at NHC Healthcare of North Augusta.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 23, at 11 a.m. at Hammond Grove Word Power Ministry, with the Rev. Bobby G. Hankerson officiating. Burial was in Pineview Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Bussey, a native of Edgefield County, was a member of Hammond Grove Word Power Ministry.
Survivors include two devoted nieces, Rose Rivers and Alberta (Ernest) Butler, North Augusta; and a host of other nieces, nephews and cousins.

Michael Butler

Funeral services for Mr. Michael Butler, of Johnston, were held Sunday, Feb. 21, 2010 at 3 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Lewis Burt, pastor, officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include a daughter, Daymorrie Butler, Johnston; his mother, Lillie Butler; a sister, Nukichie (Bernard) Drennon, Greenwood; and other relatives.
Amos & Sons Funeral Home, Johnston, was in charge of arrangements.
 
Charles Wilbron Camp

Mr. Charles Wilbron Camp, 78, of Bream Oak Road in Trenton, died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010.
Graveside services were held Friday, Feb. 19, at 11 a.m. at Ebenezer Cemetery in Trenton with military honors.
Mr. Camp was born in Ooltewah, Tenn. He joined the Air Force and relocated to Shreveport, La. After service, he went to work for the Kansas City Railroad and retired 40 years later. He and his wife relocated to Trenton and became members of Ebenezer Baptist Church. He was a member of the American Legion Post 154 in Johnston.
He is survived by his wife, Doris S. Camp; two sisters, Mrs. Dessie L. Camp Poteete, Collegedale, Tenn., and Ms. Crystal Jenkins, Ooltewah, Tenn.; and one brother, Randall Camp, Harrison, Tenn.
Memorials may be made to Trinity Hospice, 690 Medical Park Drive, Aiken, SC 29801, or to the charity of one’s choice.

Ruth Jones Daniel

Ruth Jones Daniel, of Lamar, wife of the Rev. Billy Daniel, died Jan.13, 2010.
A memorial service was held on Jan. 14 at the Belk King Funeral Home Chapel in Lamar, and the funeral and graveside services were held on Jan.15 at Pisgah United Methodist Church in Galivants Ferry.
 Mrs. Daniel was born to the late Jacob Rowell and Bessie Jordan Jones of Galivants Ferry on May 23, 1937. She was a 1954 graduate of Aynor High School and a 1957 graduate of The South Carolina Baptist School of Nursing. While living in Trenton and serving as the pastor's wife at Ebenezer Baptist Church during the 1970s, Mrs. Daniel ministered as an R.N. at The Edgefield County Nursing Home and later at The Edgefield County Hospital. For the past 26 years, she served at The Hampton Nursing Center/Sumter Health and Rehab in Sumter. She began her tenure there as the director of nursing, and following her retirement in 2002, she continued to serve as a part-time R.N. until her death.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughters Donna Daniel Teague and her husband Sam of Greenville, and Teresa Daniel Stewart of Florence; sons, David Daniel, both of Lamar; grandchildren, Jordan Teague of Nashville, Daniel Teague of Greenville, Adam Daniel of Lamar, and Andrew and Christina Stewart of Florence; and three great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by sisters Bethany Robb of Lexington, Trudy Shockley of Simpsonville, Della Kirkland of Batesburg, Yvonne Stokes of Denmark, and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Daniel was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Tom Jones, Rev. J.R. Jones, Jr., and Steve Jones; and sisters, Marie Thompkins, Elnita Smith, and Nancy Casey.
 Memorials to the Southern Baptist Disaster Relief Fund, P.O. Box 116543, Atlanta, GA 30368-6543 would honor Mrs. Daniel's lifelong passion for ministering to those who are suffering.
 
Samuel Jones

Mr. Samuel Jones, 72, of Laurens Street in Aiken, formerly of Johnston, died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2010 at Unihealth Center.
A memorial service was held Sunday, Feb. 21, at 2 p.m. at G.L. Brightharp & Sons Mortuary Chapel, Aiken, with the Rev. Ronnie Peterson officiating.
Mr. Jones was a member of Rosa Spring Baptist Church in Johnston.
Survivors include his daughter, Vennia Pough, Stone Mountain, Ga.; a son, Samuel Jones Jr., Johnston; five sisters, Georgia Mae (Jimmy) Walker, North Augusta, Mattie Johnson, Washington, D.C., Ellen McManus, Ridge Spring, Dorothy Luchie and Elbirda Steele, both of Johnston; five brothers, Pick Albert (Inez) Jones, North Augusta, Matthew (Dorothy) Jones, Oxon Hill, Md., and Major Jones, Johnston, and Pinkney Jones Jr., Philadelphia, Pa.; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a host of other relatives.

Sylvester Meriwether

Mr. Sylvester Meriwether, of Courtney Road in Trenton, died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010 at his residence.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 20, at 2 p.m. at Poplar Spring Baptist Church, with the Rev. Donnell Meriwether officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mr. Meriwether, a native of Edgefield County, was a member of Poplar Spring Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Diane Richardson Meriwether; his children, LaSonja Richardson, Octavia Richardson, Alexander Richardson, Joseph Richardson of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Hexter Meriwether, Trenton; his mother, Rosalee Boyd Meriwether, Trenton; three sisters, Dianna Negron, Doris Meriwether, Trenton, and Connie Meriwether, Brooklyn, N.Y.; five brothers, William Meriwether (Janet), Marshall Meriwether Jr. (Tauliba), Alex Meriwether (Lisa), Lance Meriwether (Kim), Brooklyn, N.Y., and Jeffery Meriwether, Queens, N.Y.; five grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Lizzie Meriwether; aunts, Katie Thurmond and Elizabeth Meriwether; an uncle, Henry Boyd; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Maude Lybrand Rawl

Mrs. Maude Lybrand Rawl, 94, of Johnston, died Monday, Feb. 15, 2010 in Edgefield County Hospital.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Feb. 18, at 2 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Johnston with burial in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Rawl was a native of Johnston, the daughter of the late Eddie Lee and Fannie Lybrand, and the widow of W. Hendrix Rawl. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and the Women of the ELCA. She was also a member of Mt. Calvary V.I.P. She was retired from Mount Vernon Mills.
Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn (Walter) Hennies and Gloria (Phillip) Bryan, Edgefield; a sister, Myrtis DeLoach of Calhoun, Ga.; a brother, Rufus Lybrand of Johnston; grandchildren, Laurie Seel of Ballentine, Brooke (Patty) Bryan of Graniteville, and Wesley (Allison) of Carlsbad, New Mexico; great-grandchildren, Matthew and Mallory Bryan, Bryson, Jack and Shelby Bryan, and Maggie and Alex Seel.
She was pre-deceased by a brother, Charles E. Lybrand.

Amanda Tillman

Ms. Amanda Tillman, of Plum Branch Road in Edgefield, died Saturday, Feb. 20, 2010 at Lexington Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 24, at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Lane Baptist Church, with the Rev. Calvin Bolton officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Ms. Tillman, a native of Edgefield County, was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, April Tillman (Derrick) Watts, Lexington; her mother, Katrina C. Harrison, Edgefield; seven sisters, Alice Parker, Queens, N.Y., Sarah (Rev. Calvin) Bolton and Minnie Wright, Decatur, Ga., Amy Pressley, Trenton, Denise (Abner) Thomas, Aiken, Paulette Ross, Lithonia, Ga., and Pauline Harrison, Augusta, Ga.; four brothers, Asa (Odessa) Harrison, Augusta, Ga., Stanley Harrison, Greenwood; Larry (Tina) Harrison, Orlando, Fla., and Glen (Maxine) Harrison, Piedmont, SC; an aunt; three uncles; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
