Addie F. Greene

Mrs. Addie F. Greene, of Freeman Road in Clarks Hill, died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2007 at her residence. Funeral services were held Thursday, Nov. 29, at 2 p.m. at Bethany Baptist Church, Clarks Hill, with the Rev. Winston Oliphant officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. She was a native of McCormick County and was a member of Bethany Baptist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Janet (Lonnie) Brisco, Clarks Hill; six sisters, Carrie (Leonard) Burch, Margaret Turman, Bertha Freeman, all of Augusta, Ga., Lilliam Broadwater, Janie Freeman and Mary (Willie) Freeman, all of Clarks Hill; four brothers, Deacon James (Minister Irene) Freeman, Deacon Thomas (Beatrice) Freeman, Clarks Hill, Clarence Freeman, Augusta, and John Dallas Gilyard, Eustis, Fla.; an aunt, Mozell Gilyard, Clarks Hill; two grandchildren, Princess Brisco and Shaniqua Brisco; a great-grandson, Isiah Brisco; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives. Williams Funeral Home, Augusta, Ga., was in charge of arrangements.

Josie Kneece

Mrs. Josie Kneece, 85, of Monetta, died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2007. A memorial service was held Sunday, Nov. 25, at 3 p.m., at Milton Shealy Funeral Home Chapel, with Brenda Elaine Kneece conducting the service. She was born in Ridge Spring, the daughter of the late Andrew Lybrand and Lula Kirkland Lybrand. She was a retired high school administrator and was married to the late Earl Kneece. She attended Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church and Bethel Baptist Church. Surviving are a son, Thomas E. Kneece, Monetta; a daughter, Rachel A. Kneece; and two grandchildren, Jason and Angela Kneece. Mary Louise Bryan Mitchell

Mrs. Mary Louise Bryan Mitchell, 66, of Tigerville, died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2007. The memorial service was at North Greenville University Chapel on Saturday, Dec. 1, at 11:00 a.m., with the Rev. Dr. Wayne Brown officiating assisted by North Greenville University President Dr. James B. Epting. Burial and graveside services were at Little Stevens Creek Baptist Church in Edgefield. Born in Edgefield, she was preceded in death by her father, Ernest R. Bryan Sr. She was a graduate of Palmer Business College where she excelled. She was loved and admired by North Greenville University board members, the president, faculty, students and employees. She traveled the world with her husband assisting in presenting Building Strong Families for Lifeway and the POPS International Foundation. Surviving are her husband, Dr. H. William Mitchell; her mother, Martha Dixon Bryan, Edgefield; daughter and son-in-law, Kimberlin Lesesne Mussa and Alessandro Carmine Mussa, Roswell, Ga.; son and daughter-in-law, Charles Bryan Lesesne and Heather Shreves lesesne , Palm Beach, Fla.; stepson, William D. Mitchell Jr., Columbia; stepson and daughter-in-law, Michael A. Mitchell and Janey Mitchell, Murrells Inlet; grandchildren, Ashlyn Marie Mussa, Ella Elizabeth Lesesne and Easton Shreves Lesesne, Carolyn Michelle Mitchell and Matthew William Mitchell; brother and sister-in-law, Dixon Butler Bryan and Diane Bryan, Ninety Six; brother and sister-in-law, Ernest R. Bryan Jr. and Penny Bryan, Edgefield; and a host of other relatives, nieces, nephews and cousins. Contributions may be made to Susan G. Joseph Morton

Mr. Joseph Morton, 56, of Johnson Road in North Augusta, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2007 at Golden Living Center. Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 1, at 1 p.m. at G.L. Brightharp & Sons Mortuary Chapel, with the Rev. Arthur L. Kemp officiating. Burial was in Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery in North Augusta. Mr. Morton was a native of Edgefield County. At an early age, he was baptized at First Providence Baptist Church. He worked for Coward Cabinet Company for 15 years. Survivors include a son, Brandon Joseph Morton; three brothers, Robert (Catherine) Morton, James (Helen) Morton and Johnny Lee Morton; five sisters, Carrie Hacker, Susie Johnson, Bertha Vaughn, Mary Sharpton and Zora (Willie) Miller; a brother-in-law, Albert Cooper; sister-in-law, Elnora Morton; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jewell Holmes Roof

Services for Mrs. Jewell Holmes Roof, 83, of West Columbia, were held Saturday, Nov. 21, 2007 at 11 a.m. at Our Saviour Lutheran Church. Officiating was the Rev. John Satterwhite. Burial was in St. Matthews Lutheran Church Cemetery in Lexington. Mrs. Roof, widow of Hubert Leon Roof, died Monday, Nov. 19. Born in Johnston, she was the daughter of the late Llewelyn L. and Effie Allene Edwards Holmes. She had been a former employee of the South Carolina Department of Labor and The State Newspaper. She was a member of Our Saviour Lutheran Church, where she was the first president and current member of WELCA at the church. She previously taught Sunday School and Bible School. She was a member of the King's Daughters, Extension Homemakers Club, the Tri-City Leisure Center, the Jubilant Singers and Sunshine Group. She also did volunteer work at Jenni Lynn Assistant Living. Surviving are her daughter, Carolyn A. Roof, Cayce; many nieces and nephews; and a special niece, Betty Fenlayson, Ward. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Katherine Cullum and Pauline Shealy; and a brother, Orin E. Holmes.
