James "Moody" Blaylock

Mr. James "Moody" Blaylock, 76, of Blackville, formerly of North Augusta, died Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 29, at 11 a.m. at G.L. Brightharp & Sons Mortuary Chapel, with the Rev. Ulysses Cummings officiating. Burial was in Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Blaylock, a native of Edgefield County, was a member of Hammond Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Joseph Blaylock; three grandchildren, Joseph Jr., Melissa and Felicia Blaylock, Augusta, Ga.; three sisters, Annie B. McManus, Ruth B. Stuard and Edith B. Douglas, Philadelphia; devoted nieces, Ola M. Baskett, Fannie Broadwater and Gloria Lee; and a host of nephews, nieces and other relatives.

Sybil Ward Burke

Mrs. Sybil Ward Burke, 90, of Edgefield, wife of the late Lee B. Burke Sr., died Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008 at Trinity Mission Health and Rehab.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 2, at 11 a.m., at Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home. Burial was in Westover Memorial Cemetery in Augusta, Ga.
Pallbearers were Mike Burke, Chris Burke, Pete Pack, Kyle Glover, Trey Glover and Tom Clark.
Mrs. Burke, a resident of Augusta for many years, was a native of Winder, Ga. She was the daughter of the late James Ward and Ada Page Ward. She retired from the Augusta Housing Authority in 1995. She was a founding member of the First Pentecostal Holiness Church of Augusta.
Survivors include two sons, Lee (Elinor) Burke, Edgefield, and Donnie (Roxanne) Burke, Sunrise, Fla.; grandchildren, Connie (Bo) Glover, Joy (Pete) Pack, Michael D. Burke, Monica (Ryan) McClellan, Christopher Burke, Ben (Michele) Burke, Brandon (Molly) Burke, and Ashley Burke; 16 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and a special niece, Shirley Hixon.
She was predeceased by a son, James Ronnie Burke.

Fannie Upson Hartzog

Mrs. Fannie Upson Hartzog, 67, of Bland Baptist Road in Johnston, died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2008 at the Medical College of Georgia.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, Nov. 30, at 2 p.m. at Bland Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jimmy L. Cue officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include five children, Evangelist Delrisa (Alexander) Sewell , Queens, N.Y., Greta Hartzog, Johnston, Melinda Hartzog, Queens, N.Y., Amy Hartzog, and Malachi Legette, both of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two special children; the Rev. Diane Johnson and the Rev. Lee Johnson; five sisters, Elizabeth Culbreath, Mildred Hughes, Claudia Upson, Deloris Sweeting, Louise Campbell.

Julia "Judy" Moore Jenkins

Mrs. Julia "Judy" Moore Jenkins, 78, of Adams Street in Edgefield, died Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2008 in Greenwood.
Funeral services were held Friday, Nov. 28, at 2 p.m. at Berea Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Jenkins was born in Edgefield County and was a member of Berea Baptist Church. She was retired from Crest Manufacturing Company and was a homemaker.
Survivors include a daughter, Connie Davis, Myrtle Beach; five sisters, Effie McDowell, Lorene Bussey, both of Edgefield, Mary Sue Hill, Chappels, Margaret Godfrey, Janie Godfrey, both of Woodruff; a brother, Floyd Moore Sr., Cross Hill; two grandchildren, Wendy Brock and Roger Davis Jr.; and three great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Berea Baptist Church, 508 Bausket Street, Edgefield, SC 29824.

Orvil Willie Rice

Mr. Orvil Willie Rice, 84, of Hillcrest Street in Edgefield, husband of Mae Cook Rice, died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2008 at his residence.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Nov. 30, at 2 p.m. at Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home. Burial was in Sunset Gardens Memorial Park.
Mr. Rice was born in Saluda County and was of the Baptist faith. He was retired from Kendall Mill and was a World War II Army veteran.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Frances (Richard) Swearingen, North Augusta, Linda (Luther) Herron, Lincolnton, Rainey (Kelly) Higgenbottom, Eureka; a brother, Merrill Rice, Ninety Six; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren; and a special pet, Christy.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Celestine; a son, Christopher; and a granddaughter, Latisha.

J.C. "Poole" Williams Sr.

Funeral services for Mr. J.C. "Poole" Williams Sr. were held Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008 at 2 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, with the Rev. Earnest Gordon, pastor, officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Louise Williams; a son, J.C. (Teresa Harris) Williams Jr., Trenton; three daughters, Macey (Thomas Smith) Williams, and Sandra (Gregory Buchannon) Williams, both of Trenton, and Tracey (Clive Myers) Williams, Orlando, Fla. ; four brothers, Rick Jamison, Johnston, Larry Jamison, Philadelphia, Pa., John Henry Hammond and Willie Williams, both of Ridge Spring; two sisters, Brenda H. (Willie) Butler, Ridge Spring, and Minnie (Eddie) Sinclair, Spartanburg; 10 grandchildren; and a grandmother, Ruth Anthony.

Eva Bryant Etheredge

Mrs. Eva Bryant Etheredge, 78, of Edgefield, died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2008 in Trinity Mission Health & Rehab.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 4, at 1 p.m. at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Public viewing will be Wednesday at 4 p.m.
Mrs. Etheredge was born in Saluda County, the daughter of the late James Paul (J.P.) and Eva Culbreath Bryant. She was a member of White Rock Holiness Church and the WomenÕs Aide Society #126.
She is survived by six sons, George Etheredge, Saluda, Ben A. Etheredge, Douglasville, Ga., Darnell Etheredge, Columbia, Ernest Etheredge, Florida, Bradford Ehteredge, Anderson, and Alfred Etheredge, Hodges; a daughter, Brenda Etheredge Gallman, Cayce; a brother, Sammie Bryant, Graniteville; two sisters, Annie Louise Jones, New York and Alberta Bidding, Akron, Ohio; 17 grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren.
