Robert Coates

Mr. Robert Coates, 51, of Jeter Street in Edgefield, died Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009 at the Medical College of Georgia.
Funeral services were held Friday, Nov. 27, at 3 p.m. at Willow Springs Baptist Church.
Born in Edgefield County, son of Hattie Jones Coates and the late Claude Coates II, he was a member of Willow Springs Baptist Church and was a retired truck driver.
In addition to his mother of Edgefield, he is survived by two sons, Isaiah Coates, Edgefield, and Johsun Coates, Abbeville; a daughter, Lutece Coates, Abbeville; brothers, Bobby Coates and Freddie Coates, both of Columbia, Claude Coates III, Edward Coates, Richard Coates, of Edgefield, James Coates, Earnest Coates and George Coates, Saluda, and Thomas Coates, Bishopville; sisters, Shirley Coates, Aiken, Rosetta Williams, North Augusta, and Jessie Davis, Edgefield.
Butler & Sons Funeral Home, Saluda, was in charge of arrangements.

Lucy Lybrand

Funeral services for Mrs. Lucy Lybrand, 88, of Johnston, were held Monday, Nov. 30, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Lybrand, a native of Aiken County, died Saturday, Nov. 28 She was a daughter of the late Fletcher and Mary Deaton Friar. She was a former member of the Dogwood Garden Club and the Eastern Star and was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church where she attended the Adult Sunday School Class and the Johnston Long Branch Circle.
Survivors include her husband, Rufus Lybrand Sr.; a son, the Rev. Rufus “Rammy” E. Lybrand Jr. (Jackie) of Fort Mill; a daughter, Sandra K. Lybrand of Columbia; grandchildren, Mauri (Rob) Moser and Brett (Meg) Lybrand; great-grandchildren, Gabriel and Naomi Moser.
Memorials may be made to Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, 1186 Mt. Calvary Road, Johnston, SC 29832. The family would like to extend special thanks to Hospice of South Carolina for their outstanding care of their loved one.

Harmon Bertis Ouzts

Services for Mr. Harmon Bertis Ouzts, 73, of Johnston, were held Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Providence Baptist Church. Burial was in Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Mr. Ouzts, a native of Edgefield County, died Thursday, Nov. 26. He was a son of the late Alma Bertis and Mary Gregory Ouzts. He retired after 44 years with the South Carolina National Guard and 20 years as a federal technician with the National Guard. He was a member of Providence Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.
Survivors include his wife, Nellie Wilson Ouzts; daughters, Sandra (Larry) Cockrell and Wanda (Marvin) Long-Cromer; a sister, Marjorie (Harold) Butler; grandchildren, Stephanie and Stacy Scoggins, Mitchell, Brandon and Britt Long and Christopher and Paul James Cockrell; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Gregory Roney

Mr. Gregory Roney, 52, of Edgefield, died Saturday, Nov. 21, at the Medical College of Georgia Hospital in Augusta, Ga.
Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 30, at 2 p.m. at Republican Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Willie Patten Jr. officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mr. Roney, a native of Edgefield, was a member of Republican Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include four sons, Tylee Rutledge, Virginia Beach, Va., Markay Barnes, Columbia, Gregory Moore and Jimel Moore, both of Edgefield; his mother, Elsie Louise Inniss Edgefield; his mother, Elsie Louise Inniss, Edgefield; four grandchildren; and a host of other relatives.
G.L. Brightharp & Sons Mortuary, Edgefield, was in charge of arrangements.

Samuel Young Sr.

Funeral services for Mr. Samuel Young Sr., of Johnston, will be held Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2009 at 1 p.m. at Simmon Ridge Baptist Church, with the Rev. Matthew Haskell, pastor, and the Rev. Edward Lloyd, eulogist. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Young was a retired logger.
Survivors include three daughters, Yvonne J. Young, Long Island, N.Y., Barbara Y. (Leonard) Walker, Houston, Texas, and Myrtis Y. (the Rev. Stanley) Walker, Trenton; three sons, Samuel Young Jr. and Gerald Young, both of Johnston, and Ronnie Paul (Deloris) Young, Decatur, Ga.; two sisters, Juliette Y. Bynoe, Columbia, and Katie Green, New Britain, Conn.; sisters-in-law, Irene Young, Edgefield, and Ruby Hogans, Far Rockaway, N.Y.; and a brother-in-law, Ronald Lloyd, Bronx, N.Y.; 13 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
