Nancy ‘Cozell’ Elam Miller

Funeral services for Nancy “Cozell” Elam Miller, of Edgefield, were held Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Republican Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Willie Patten, pastor, and the Rev. James R. Martin, eulogist. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Ann (Grover Bussy) Miller, Edgefield; eight sisters, Jeanette Scurry, Allen Andrews, Fannie Mae Johnson, Mary Strom, Geneva (Warren) Chinn, and Georgia (W.C.) Calhoun, all of Edgefield, Rosa (Ollie) West, Johnston, and Betty (Charles) Richardson, Aiken; six brothers, Floyd (Veronica) Elam, Highpark, Mass., Robert (Amber Louise) Elam, Highport, Mass., Eugene (Barbara) Martin, Shep (Tina) Martin, Clarence (Lisa) Martin, and Willie Martin, all of Edgefield; four grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Mabel Elam, Boston, Mass., and Zebia Lymen; a special friend, Olicer Palmore, Newberry; special nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
Amos & Sons Funeral Home, Johnston, was in charge of arrangements.

George T. Moore Sr.

Mr. George T. Moore Sr., 85, of Pine Knoll Lane in Edgefield, husband of the late Harriet A. “Betty” Moore, died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009 at Edgefield County Hospital.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Harmony United Methodist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mr. Moore was born in Braddock, Pa. and was a member of Harmony United Methodist Church. He was retired as plant manager for WABCO Union Switch and Signal. He was a Navy veteran of World War II where he received the Bronze Star Medal and the Victory Medal of the American Campaign.
Survivors include a daughter, Marjorie M. (Don) Cassels, Edgefield; a son, the Rev. G. Thomas (Kelly) Moore Jr., Lexington; six grandchildren, Donald G. Cassels III, Seabrook (John) Jacob, Jennifer Kyle Cassels, George T. Moore IV, Anna Kyle Moore and Grace Elizabeth Moore; and a great-grandson, Collin Matthew Jacob.

Sallie Mae Brown Strom

Mrs. Sallie Mae Brown Strom, 82, of Moragne Street in Edgefield, died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009 at University Hospital in Augusta, Ga.
Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
Mrs. Strom, a native of Edgefield County, was a member of Jeter Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Sandy Jean Strom, Aiken; four sons, Raymond (Loretta) Strom, Thomas Strom, San Jose, Calif., John Teddy Strom Jr., Mitchellville, Md., and Heyward Strom, Edgefield; a sister, Mattie Brown, Maryland; and a host of other relatives.
G.L. Brightharp & Sons Mortuary, Edgefield, is in charge of arrangements.

Annie Bertha Sullivan

Ms. Annie Bertha Sullivan, 80, of Bradley Drive in North Augusta, died Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010 at NHC Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center.
Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
Ms. Sullivan, a native of Edgefield County, was a member of Spring Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include a sister, Rosa Green; a brother, Roosevelt (Verdell) Sullivan; devoted nephews raised as sons, Ricky (Sharon) Anderson and Brannon Kennedy, all of North Augusta; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
G.L. Brightharp & Sons Mortuary, North Augusta, is in charge of arrangements.

Betty Paxton Teaster

Mrs. Betty Paxton Teaster, of Spartanburg, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2009.
A memorial service was held Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Montgomery Memorial United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Kelly Lee Gallamore. She gave the greatest gift to medicine by offering her body to University of South Carolina Medical College for research and studies.
Mrs. Teaster was the daughter of the late Lavenia H. Robinson and stepfather Furman Robinson. A graduate of Pacolet High School, Spartanburg General Hospital School of Nursing and Medical College of Georgia, she continued her studies at Southern Tech. She served as assistant principal for the Magnet School of Augusta, Ga. She sponsored a golf tournament that benefitted the golf team of Strom Thurmond High School. She won many awards through the Pacolet Connection and was a member of Montgomery Memorial United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Paul Teaster; sons, David Paxton and wife Marinell of Ellajay, Ga., James Paxton and wife Kerry of Marietta, Ga., and John Paxton of Edgefield; stepdaughters, Gail Wood and husband Judge Henry Wood of Rock Hill, Paula Teaster of Pacolet, Marsha and husband Frank Hood of Whitestone; a sister, Peggy Martin of Spartanburg; a special niece, Julia and husband Donald Cashion, M.D., children Alexandra and Caroline of Virginia Beach, Va.; an aunt, Georgetta Dawson of Spartanburg; grandchildren, Melanie, Brian, Ashley, James Jr., Peyton and Debra; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a son, Pat Paxton.
Memorials may be made to the St. Luke’s Free Clinic and Montgomery Memorial United Methodist Church.
