Wanted Edgefield man surrenders to authorities

First Byline:
STAFF REPORT

EDGEFIELD – An Edgefield man authorities wanted on a charge of criminal sexual conduct with a minor turned himself in within hours of information being released via local media outlets on Wednesday.

Johnnie Lee Snodgrass, age 42, quietly surrendered to law enforcement at the Edgefield County Detention Center around 6 p.m. on Wednesday evening.

Authorities were contacted and informed that he planned to turn himself in.

The Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office had released a photograph and descriptive information that would aid the search for Mr. Snodgrass earlier in the day.

Details of the investigation itself, which involves a five-year-old victim, are being withheld at this time as investigators continue to work on the case.

“Our continuing cooperation with the local media definitely helped to lead to (Mr. Snodgrass) turning himself in,” said Edgefield County Sheriff Adell Dobey. “We also appreciate the citizens who called in with information, who, as always, may remain anonymous. But this type of cooperation between law enforcement and the media helps us to better protect our citizens and to solve crimes so we are always appreciative of that.”
