TRENTON - The town of Trenton was made even more famous last weekend when it was featured live on WJBF Channel 6’s “Your Hometown” broadcast with co-anchors Brad Means and Jennie Montgomery.

Chief meteorologist George Myers and reporter Barclay Bishop were also there interviewing local people of interest. The event Friday evening in the Trenton Park kicked off the 39th Annual Ridge Peach Festival.

Jane Blume, who has worked with the festival since its inception, said, “I heard someone say that it (the TV segment) was the best coverage of Edgefield County we’ve ever had.”

Montgomery and Means were kept comfortable in the air-conditioned Trenton Community Development Association building until the actual broadcast.
“I haven’t had a chance yet to meet many of the people,” said Montgomery. “But there are two things I’ve noticed so far about Trenton. First, the houses are so charming. I’ve never turned off 25 and came down into the town. I want the little pink house on the left coming in and I loved the house with the big old porch. I’d love to sit on that porch. Also, the town has that wonderful small-town feel about it.”

Means said the station has done the “Your Hometown” segment for years.

“We’ve done at least 40 of them throughout the CSRA,” he said. “Jennie and I have co-anchored for 13 years. It’s wonderful to get out of that cold building and get out among the people.”

He said what caught his eye the most on his way in were the signs.

“The minute you get close to Trenton there’s a sign or decoration everywhere about the Peach Festival,” he said. “It seems the whole town has caught the spirit."
