A suspect who led police on two separate manhunts earlier this month and who authorities say broke into an elderly Edgefield woman’s home on June 8 and trapped her with duct tape is now in custody, according to Capt. Steve Morris of the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.

Columbia County officers discovered Marc Anthony Cagle, 55, at Augusta Iron & Steel Works at Martinez Boulevard today.

Edgefield and Richmond county officers had been searching for Cagle since authorities believe he broke into an 80-year-old Edgefield woman’s home, bound her with duct tape and stole her credit cards two weeks ago.

The woman’s car had already been recovered near a Gordon Highway hotel in Augusta, according to Lt. Randy Doran, of the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Department.

Charges in the Edgefield County case include kidnapping, assault and battery and burglary. Cagle had already been named as a suspect in other Edgefield County break-ins earlier in the year.

Charlotte Barrett, 80, of the Merriwether community, told police she came home Tuesday to find a man burglarizing her house. The man bound her, before stealing her credit cards and her vehicle.

Cagle’s car had been found abandoned in the area, leading police on an extensive search.
