Following weeks of speculation, lifelong Edgefield resident, Scott Mims, has officially announced his candidacy for the District 2 Edgefield County Council seat to help improve the quality of life for Edgefield County residents.
Mims plans to make these improvements through a “Common Sense Approach” by assisting in strengthening the Edgefield County school system, law enforcement division and fire department, creating a stronger medical community by working with the hospital and EMS, as well as providing more recreational opportunities for our youth and senior citizens.
“We have a wonderful quality of life here in Edgefield, but we must always work to make it better and I plan to do just that,” said Mims. “If elected, I will fulfill the duties of a council member in an ethical and professional manner. I want to approach the issues at hand with an open mind and listen to both sides to make sound, common sense decisions that are in the best interest of the county.”
As a local business owner and community leader, Mims, understands the importance of economic growth, the importance of lowering taxes, looking out for local employees and providing more opportunities for Edgefield County residents.
“I want to be very involved in promoting economic development here in Edgefield County,” explained Mims. “I fully understand that jobs are the economic engine that moves a county forward and the council members we’ve had in years past have done a wonderful job implementing projects to see that we have opportunities in place for all Edgefield citizens, but it’s now time for a change. I’m ready to take the tools and plans they’ve put in place to expand and improve on them by allowing the voice of our citizens to help decide what will continue moving Edgefield in the right direction.”
Mims’ experience on other Boards and the relationship he’s built with many citizens of Edgefield will bring more proactive measures to the County by focusing on the initiatives that will help take Edgefield to the next level.
His resume includes:
- Edgefield Fire Department (six years)
- President of Edgefield Dixie Youth Baseball (four years)
- Edgefield County Recreation Board of Directors (one year)
- Edgefield County Alliance Board of Directors (recently elected)
- Owner of All-Star Construction Services (six years)
He is married to Vicki Mims and is the father of two children, Jacob and Chandler.
The Edgefield County Council is comprised of elected representatives from five single-member districts. All council members serve two-year terms. Edgefield County employs the Council-Administrator form of government, whereby County Council determines policies that are implemented under the direction of an appointed County Administrator.
