JOHNSTON - Several key positions within the Edgefield County School District have been filled.

The Edgefield County Board of Trustees recently approved Mr. Wayne Marchant as Principal of Merriwether Elementary School and Ms. Heidi Faber Kerns, CMA as Chief Financial Officer.

On May 26, 2009, the Edgefield County School Board of Trustees unanimously approved Mr. Stephen Hampton of Spartanburg, SC, as Principal of Johnston-Edgefield-Trenton Middle School.

Dr. Mary R. Crenshaw, Superintendent stated, "We are extremely pleased to have Mr. Marchant become Principal of Merriwether Elementary School. He will bring great leadership experience to the position. Mr. Marchant is committed to providing an excellent learning atmosphere at the elementary school."

Mr. Marchant said he is extremely excited that he has been given the opportunity to fill the position of Principal of Merriwether Elementary School.

"The school has excellent students and staff and I want to be able to continue the excellence that has been established in the school," he stated.

"Ms. Kerns will bring to the district eighteen years of experience in school finance. Her vast knowledge of school finance and operations will be a great asset to the management of the daily operations of our schools and district," said Dr. Crenshaw.

Ms. Kerns said that she has missed working in the school finance operations area with faculty and staff, and has missed seeing students in their daily learning settings.

"I had a great meeting with Dr. Crenshaw and I look forward to beginning my duties in Edgefield County." Ms. Kerns said.

Dr. Crenshaw said she was thrilled to have Mr. Hampton on board.

"Mr. Hampton will be bringing to our middle school a commitment for student development and learning experiences. He is an outstanding communicator with superior management skills and vast experience in administration," said Dr. Mary R. Crenshaw and continued, "His leadership skills, which are highly recommended, embrace team building among his staff. He has a sound commitment to providing a positive learning atmosphere that welcomes exploration and enhances student confidence."
