Pending Signature, Brown set to Take Over as New County Administrator on Feb. 1st

EDGEFIELD - A somewhat lengthy contract negotiation between prospective County Administrator Alton Brown and County Attorney Michael Medlock – due in part to both the holiday season and vacations – finally came to a conclusion on Tuesday with Mr. Brown agreeing to terms.

A Tuesday morning press release stated, “Edgefield County has reached an agreement in principle with Mr. Alton Brown for the position of Edgefield County Administrator beginning on February 1st, 2010.”

However, that agreement is still contingent upon Mr. Brown’s signature, though he is fully expected to do so by county officials.

Also, until Mr. Brown signs the contract, salary information is not being released.

After initially removing his name from consideration for the Edgefield County position, members of council asked him to reconsider. He did just that, and was offered the job following a called meeting of Council late last month.
That vote for Mr. Brown was unanimous.

Mr. Brown, reached at his home on Tuesday, declined to comment on either the contract negotiations or when he might sign the contract, saying he preferred any and all information on the pending matter to come directly from Council itself.

District Two Councilman Rodney Ashcraft said last month that Mr. Brown had the qualifications that the council was looking for in its next county administrator.

“His resume was very good and it seems like when he goes somewhere he stays there,” he said at the time. “He was just very impressive and I think that he’ll make a good administrator. Everything he had is what we need.”
