TRENTON – Kory Krohn was back behind the cash register at Billy’s Superstore on Monday.
And her presence there was a display of both courage and determination. Many others in her place might never have shown back up for work after having a pair of guns pointed at them during the commission of an armed robbery as Krohn had happen to her on Saturday.
At around 10:15 p.m. that evening, a man dressed in black and sporting dreadlocks approached the counter. The next think Krohn knew he was holding a hand gun and pointing it directly at her.
“It was scary,” she said of the experience. “I took Sunday off because I was still a little shaken up about it, but I’m here. I mean, what else are you going to do?”
The first gunman was soon joined by a second, shorter, accomplice who drew out what police are calling a “long gun” in describing what appears on security camera video to be a pellet rifle or similar small-caliber rifle. The first robber brandished a weapon that resembled a short-nosed revolver.
The men reached into the cash register and removed an undisclosed amount of money before fleeing the premises on foot. It had all taken less than 30 seconds to go down.
“That’s the first time anything like that has happened to me, but I haven’t been working here that long,” said Krohn, who has only been in the business a matter of months. “I don’t think it’s something you can get used to though.”
Police reports on the incident describe the first suspect as being a black male standing around six-feet-tall in height and weighing between 150 and 160 pounds.
He was wearing a black, “hoodie” sweatshirt with an image on the front that could have been that of Al Pacino’s character in the movie Scarface, though that information is speculative only. He also wore black pants and white tennis shoes and appeared to have been wearing gold bracelets on his left wrist.
The second suspect is described as a black male standing between five-feet-six inches tall and five-feet-eight-inches tall and weighing between 160 and 170 pounds. This suspect was wearing a black short-sleeved shirt, black pants and shoes and wore a bandana to hide his face.
Both men were described as being between the ages of 18 and 25.
Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Chris Wash said his agency is following up on leads and tips and maintaining contact with agencies in surrounding counties.
“We’re still following up on the leads we have,” Wash said Tuesday afternoon.
