Trenton Garden Club holds January meeting

First Byline:
Staff Report

TRENTON — The Trenton Garden
Club met on Wednesday, Jan. 14, at the Trenton Community Center in downtown
Trenton.

Members present were Mary Ann Tabor, Judi Pitts, Helen Carpenter,
Clarice Wise, Barbara Jay, Bonnie Moore, Judy Colley, Barbara Whitlock, Jane
Blume and Mary McCary.

The hostesses were Bonnie
Moore and Mary McCary. The theme was the club’s colors of gold and royal blue.
Everything was decorated accordingly with bouquets of camellias on the table.
Helen Carpenter said the blessing. Refreshments were served of chocolate,
chocolate and more chocolate.

Guest speaker was Janet Carter
of Flowers by Janet. She brought fresh flowers and demonstrated a beautiful
Valentine topiary. She used fresh carnations, tinted caspia, leather leaf fern
and tree fern greenery, with heart garland and bows. This was unusual and a
wonderfully creative idea for Valentine’s.

She then started on a bird
house planter. For this, she used camellia limbs, purple aster, orange roses,
nandena limbs and berries, variegated ivy and yellow and white daisies. It was
fabulous! She also brought a Peter Rabbit pot with live variegated ivy growing
in it.

She presented each member with
a long-stem Alstromeria lily in a stem tube with a recipe for homemade
preservative along with a package of crystal preservative. All the members were
pleased with this surprise. Then, she gave all three of her lovely arrangements
away. The lucky winners were Mary Ann Tabor, Barbara Whitlock and Jane Blume.
Everyone enjoyed her presentation and thanked her for coming.

The meeting was then called to
order by Judi Pitts, the president. Bonnie Moore read the Club Collect. Barbara
Jay called the roll and collected dues.

Poinsettias were taken to
Kathryn Day and Elizabeth Wise in December by Bonnie Moore from the garden
club. They are honorary members.

It was reported that Dot
Whitlock is improving at home. The members will be glad when she is able to be
back with them. Also Ruth Woosley is doing better in California.

The Trenton Garden Club served
doughnuts, coffee and juice at the S.C. Fall District Meeting in Ridge Spring.
Judi Pitts and Bonnie Moore represented the club there.

The club then had election of
officers. There was a motion to keep the slate of officers as they were. This
came with a second. All officers agreed. There were a few changes in committee
members.

The meeting was adjourned by
the president.
