'Paint and Play' Offers Relaxed Art Atmosphere
Calling all amateurs! It’s time to paint and play!
Well-known Edgefield artist Pamela Moore is teaching art classes for adults every Tuesday night in the Israel Mukashy building in Edgefield, beginning at 6:30 and lasting until around 9:30. Each month the works of a different artist are featured. In May, the featured artist is Monet and in June, the works of Georgia O’Keef will be featured.
“This is in order to learn their techniques,” said Moore. “But the students can paint anything they want.”
The classes are designed to be casual so that everyone can get their creative juices flowing. Canvases, brushes and paint are supplied while students are invited to bring their own beer, wine or tea. Everyone leaves with a finished art project.
Susan Pond, a longtime student of Moore’s, is part of the painting classes.
“I’ve benefitted a lot from Pamela’s experience and talent,” she said. “She’s a wonderful teacher. She’s so encouraging and patient.”
Pond said she had been interested in art as a child and that she became interested in other things and got away from it for awhile.
“I came back to painting about 12 years ago,” she said. “It’s an important part of my life.”
She said she likes the Paint and Play because it’s so relaxed and fun.
“The object is just to have a good time and no one is comparing your work to anyone else’s or expecting you to be a pro.”
Moore also teaches art classes for children on Saturdays at 10 a.m. and Wednesdays at 2:30 p.m.
