JOHNSTON - The Johnston Lions Club held its monthly meeting on Thursday, March 19, at the Chamber of Commerce Building.
Lion President Roger Lamb shared insights from the Mid Winter
Conference. Of special interest was the featured speaker International
Director Harold Ott.
The Lions Club State Convention will be
held April 2-5 in Spartanburg . Guest speaker will be President of the
International Association of Lions Clubs, Al Brandel.
Lion President Roger Lamb presented an informative message on High Blood pressure (hypertension). When speaking of blood pressure it is referring to the arterial pressure only. The numbers indicating high blood pressure as well as other pertinent terminology were discussed.
Among the highest of the risk factors was a family history. Since blood pressure is controlled by the kidneys any condition that interferes with blood flow to the kidneys can cause high blood pressure.
Several common causes were presented.
There are a number of complications due to high blood pressure such as stroke and heart attack. Treatment includes medication as well as restricting salt intake, weight loss, exercise and diabetes control.
The next meeting of the Johnston Lions Club will be April 16 at 7 p.m. at the Chamber of Commerce Building.
