The Edgefield Lions Club had its monthly meeting on Monday, Nov. 9, in the Edgefield United Methodist Fellowship Hall.

Lion Sharon Keesley welcomed members and Lion Roger Timpson introduced the guest speaker, Mr. Joel Jolly. Mr. Jolly operates and manages Edgefield Fuel, coordinates the Edgefield heritage Jubilee and spearheads the Edgefield County School District Foundation.

It was evident that Mr. Jolly had a sincere devotion and love for Edgefield County, where he grew up and attended schools. He became involved with the Heritage Jubilee, which he finds very rewarding.

He stated how the festival evolved and became a great festival for a small town. The Heritage Jubilee has donated profits to organizations that benefit our county, the citizens and children.

Mr. Jolly stated that he was in a family of educators including his late mother, wife and sister-in-laws. He is involved with the Education Foundation for teacher grants. They have been very successful in obtaining grants for our schools. He thanked the Lions for their participation and involvement in the community.

Afterwards, the Lions members discussed their plans to assist a blind student to attend camp.
The business meeting followed the regular meeting. Lion Doug Sutton, treasurer, gave the financial report. Lion Keesley updated members on upcoming events and plans for a Highway Cleanup Day on Dec. 19.

After the meeting, the Lions delivered meals to homebound residents.

The meetings of the Edgefield Lions Club are the second Monday of each month at Edgefield Methodist Church, 309 Norris Street in the Fellowship Hall. The next regular meeting scheduled meeting will be on Monday, Jan. 11, 2010.

Applications for eye exams and glasses may be requested from Lion Sandra Smith at 637-5200. Edgefield Lions keep in inventory lightweight household, heavy duty, commercial and small swish brooms for sale to the public.
