Burton Center Staff Receive Service Awards Burton Center staff members were honored for their years of service at a luncheon held at the Gatewood Club.
Former Representative Marion P. Carnell delivered the keynote message. "When I reflect back on the past 37 years, I am so proud of the labor of love that has built these quality programs that meet the needs of people with special needs throughout six counties. Burton Center began in 1971 in a building at the back of Brewer School with 8 clients and 2 staff and today you serve over 1200 people and employ over 450 staff," stated Mr. Carnell.
"Those of you being honored today are special and the work you do is important. Each and every day you add to the quality of life of those you serve. Congratulations on a job well done and may God continue to bless you all."

Burton Center for Disabilities and Special Needs is a non-profit, multi-county agency, providing services for over 1,200 people with disabilities and special needs (autism, mental retardation, head injuries, spinal cord injuries and related disabilities) in Abbeville, Edgefield, Greenwood, Lexington, McCormick and Saluda counties, with over 450 staff members.
Services include: family support (respite, medical supplies, medical equipment, personal care aide services, attendant care services), day services for adults at four centers located in Greenwood, Lexington, Saluda and Ware Shoals (vocational, self-help and academic training), early intervention (homebased services for children), residential services (30 community residences, 3 supervised living programs, 9 community training home I’s) and service coordination. Burton Center is a United Way agency.
